Viseu
Located on a plateau surrounded by mountains, among which stand out Estrela and Caramulo, Viseu is a central city in relation to its district. In a wooded and slightly hilly area, the town developed on the left bank of Paiva, an affluent of the Mondego river. Wine is also associated with cooperage and oak barrels and casks. In Lazarim, Carnival masks carved from alder wood are one of the ex-libris, a true work of art. This district also features sculptures in clay, weaving, rustic furniture, work in pewter and wrought iron, tin, headwear, embroidery, pottery, ceramics, rag rugs, linen items, hoods in sackcloth and wool caps, pieces in red clay and stone, work in cork, wood and roots and “croças” (capes made of reed for the rain).
